Courses Jointly Developed with the Open University: Scholarship Opens for Teachers and Parents

To equip pre-school teachers with professional knowledge and skills in teaching children with special educational needs (SEN), Heep Hong Society has collaborated with the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) to offer the following academic programmes:

Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Early Childhood Education: Leadership and Special Educational Needs)

The programme is designed specifically for holders of Certificate / Diploma in Education with an aim to strengthen their leadership skills and to deepen their understanding of early childhood education as they progress to higher positions in kindergartens, child care centres or special education. This degree programme is recognised by the Social Welfare Department as a training programme for special child care workers; graduates of the programme will be considered as meeting the Education Bureau’s academic entry qualification for kindergarten principals. All courses are delivered by distance learning with Chinese as the medium of instruction. Holders of Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education or Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education (Special Educational Needs) conferred by The Open University of Hong Kong will be awarded a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours by completing another 40 credits.

The programme comprises five core courses developed by experienced psychologists and therapists of Heep Hong with dual emphasis on theory and practice:

  • EDUE281C Early Assessment and Intervention (Autumn presentation)
  • EDUE282C Teaching Pre-school Children at Risk of Dyslexia (Autumn presentation)
  • EDU E383C Characteristics, Assessment and Management of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Tendencies in Early Childhood (Spring presentation)
  • EDUE385C Supporting Young Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (Spring presentation)
  • EDUE386C Language Delay and Training (Autumn presentation)

Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Special Educational Needs) and Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education (Special Educational Needs)

The Higher Diploma programme is recognised by the Social Welfare Department as equivalent to the One-year In-service Course on Special Child Care Work. The Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education (Special Educational Needs) programme is designed specifically for special child care workers and included in the Education Bureau's Approved Course List. Graduates of the degree programme will be considered as meeting the Education Bureau’s academic entry qualification for kindergarten principals.

Scholarship Opens for Teachers and Parents

To encourage pre-school teachers and help interested parents cope with their financial needs, Heep Hong Society offers scholarship awards and practicum opportunities for pre-school teachers; as well as study awards for parent members of the Society.
