Director of Heep Hong Conferred Honorary University Fellowships by Open University of Hong Kong
Ms Nancy Tsang, Director of Heep Hong Society was conferred Honorary University Fellowship by The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) on 4 November 2016 in recognition of her outstanding achievements in the professional field of rehabilitation services. Over more than 30 years, Ms Tsang has devoted herself unstintingly to her profession and established an illustrious career in the field. Under her leadership, the Society has evolved from a small-sized NGO into one of Hong Kong’s leading service providers in the field.
Heep Hong Society has pioneered in providing new services initiatives to address the most pressing social needs. Examples of those include, among others, establishing the service models of special child care centre, early education and training centre and parents resource centre. All those efforts signify the Society’s commitment to providing comprehensive services to children with special needs and their families.
Recently Ms Tsang has put forward two new initiatives, one of which is providing training subsidies to children with special needs from low income families who are waiting for pre-school rehabilitation services, with a view to assuring them of timely and appropriate training that is crucial to rehabilitation. Another initiative is a pilot project for on-site pre-school rehabilitation services that supports kindergarten children with special needs. Both initiatives fill the existing service gap with satisfactory outcomes, and have been adopted by the Government in its existing and upcoming regular services.
Heep Hong Society has collaborated with the OUHK since 2011 to offer a series of professional programmes in special education, providing the academic pathway for joining the profession.
